Have
you heard of how an eagle takes care of its young ones?
After starting with strong, thick sticks and mud she weaves
the nest with more lighter and softer materials, until
she ends up with a very comfortable warm environment for
her eggs. She lays the eggs, and when it hatches she begins
feeding her chicks. Then the mother eagle starts to take
out all the soft materials from the nest. She actually
picks out the leaves and feathers and throws them over
the side. The nest becomes less and less comfortable. When
it’s time for the baby eagles to fly, she starts pushing
them out of the nest by gently nudges them at first. If
the baby eagles do not move, the mother picks them up and
throws them out of the nest. The baby eagles fall towards
the ground and by instinct begin to spread their wings.
If by chance that doesn’t happen, the mother eagle will
fly down to grab the chick before it hits the ground, flies
back to the nest and throws the baby back out again until
the baby learns to fly. The aim of Helios Foundation is
that of the eagle – To teach our kids to soar high and
face the world. Have a look at what we’ve done so far: |
| Our
achievements: |
|
Education:
Teach a person how to fish and you feed the person for
a lifetime. That being our motto, we’ve enrolled almost
all our children in a well renowned educational institution
of high standard in the city. Happy to be dressed in smart
uniforms, our children have proven that hard work triumphs
by securing the best grades as well as numerous other laurels
in sports & extracurricular activities. Education amounts
to the foundation’s single biggest cost, as quality education
for about 100 children doesn’t come cheap and this is something
we do not want to ever compromise on |

|
|
Environment:
A warm and cozy home is important for everyone of us and
our children deserve nothing else. Helios has in addition
to painting the home in a myriad of colours, purchased
new bunker cots for the kids in addition to some basic
and much needed amenities. We still have a long way to
go as the current home is a rented house with a lease that
can be terminated at any point of time. Our mid-term goal
is to set-up our own home out of funds that we hope to
raise from people like you. |

|
|
Activities:
Painting, they say, is an extension of the mind. And our
children wowed us with their exquisite paintings, part
of a competition held for them. Their talents with the
brushes had in fact started as early as Jan’08 when for
the launch of the Helios Foundation, they came up with
50 amazing pieces of art that were given away to our initial
batch of supporters all of whom were more than impressed
with the beautiful work and the amount of efforts that
were put in by the children. |
| |
|
|
Entertainment:
Singing, dancing, karate, our kids know it all! After serenading
us with beautiful songs at the launch, we continue to develop
their talents through frequent shows & get-togethers.
And not only do they get to perform but also witness some
choicy entertainment such as a special movie screening,
magic show & a puppet show that had all the kids completely
entrhalled and yelling for more! After all we do believe
in the saying that all work and no play makes jack a dull
boy. |

|
 |
Health & Hygiene:
Two of the most important factors that affect the growth
of a child. We aim to provide all our children home cooked
and a well balanced & nutritious diet. Cash flow is
always an issue that we hope to be able to control with
your support but with whatever we have, we do our best.
A health camp organised on behalf of our children involving
two of Chennai’s renowned doctors is something we would
like to repeat once every three months to ensure that the
health of our children is the least of our worries! |

|
| Do you feel we haven’t
done enough? We completely agree! Our aim is to do much
more for which we need far greater support from people
just like you. Click
